Chapter 10 Components of a Preregistration
10.1 ABCD example
A preregistration only needs to outline your research questions, hypotheses, and the methods and data analysis plan. If you want, you can simply upload your own document onto a platform like OSF, linked to your project, or OSF has some handy templates to choose from.
This preregistration can be found at https://osf.io/cjnh4. Note that we selected “It’s complicated” for the answer to if data has already been collected. We explain this further in the ‘Other’ section below.
10.2 fMRI study example
The following pre-registration example (https://osf.io/vefsz) by Dr. Nandi Vijayakumar is from a non-ABCD study, the Transitions in Adolescent Girls study (PI: Prof Jennifer Pfeifer). Note how Dr. Vijayakumar has specifically listed (and numbered) separate neuroimaging aims. Her data analysis plan will later refer to these aims in an organized fashion.
The full preregistration also includes a short plan for the brain X behaviour analyses, go to https://osf.io/vefsz to see the example. Please also share your public preregistrations on the ABCD slack!
